During this year’s Super Bowl, fans were treated to a few quick teaser trailers for the upcoming adaptation of Alvin Schwartz’ seminal classic book series, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. While those little snippets gave us our first glimpse into this spooky world brought to life, we now have an official trailer for André Øvredal’s upcoming film. And what a trailer it is.
Those who grew up reading these books, and where therefore traumatized by them, will certainly see a number of creepy blasts from the past throughout. Just seeing “The Red Spot” there in live-action sends chills down my spine. What story are you most looking forward to seeing come to life?
It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying home.
Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark will hit theaters on August 9th.
