Horror games are increasingly popular today, with the titles such as Resident Evil: Biohazard and Outlast achieving worldwide popularity and critical acclaim. In recent times, survival horror has gained much popularity among the gaming community, bringing new and improved graphics, immersive gameplay and a variety of new features that have redefined the genre.

In this guide, we’ll let you have a look at some of the scariest horror games PS4 in 2018. Beware though, some of these games are definitely not for the faint-hearted.

    1. Amnesia: The Dark Descent

A survival horror game, Amnesia: The Dark Descent was originally released on PC in 2010, and on PlayStation 4 in 2016 by Fictional Games.

The first thing you need to know about Amnesia that is this is not a typical hack and slash horror game where the goal is to kill as many monsters as possible. In fact, you won’t even get to handle a weapon in this game and can’t defend from the enemies you encounter along the way.

The game’s main protagonist, Daniel, wakes up alone in an abandoned Medieval castle, and to make things even worse, he’s lost all memory.

Amnesia’s brilliant use of lightning and other atmospheric effects do a great job at creating tension and fear for the player character. In addition, a compelling and highly original storyline makes Amnesia one of the scariest games ever created.

    1. Days Gone

An action-adventure survival horror, Days Gone is set to be released at some point in 2018. It’s set in a post-apocalyptic open world and it takes inspiration from The Last of Us and Sons of Anarchy.

You play as Deacon St. John, a bounty hunter fighting for survival in a harsh world, following a global pandemic. Days Gone offers players the chance to enter a vast, detailed open world where weather affects enemy behavior.

    1. Outlast

A first-person survival psychological horror released in 2013, Outlast has received nearly universal acclaim from critics, praising the game for its atmosphere and gameplay. While it could be said that the setting is a bit cliched – an abandoned mental asylum in a remote area of Colorado – Outlast will grab your attention with a terrific storyline, chillingly realistic world and a tense atmosphere. Terror lurks at every corner or Mount Massive Asylum as the game delves deep into the darkest aspects of the human mind.

    1. The Long Dark

Unlike the other games on this list, The Long Dark is not technically a horror game. There are no monsters, aliens or zombies and your only goal is to survive in the hostile Canadian wilderness. After an unknown global disaster causes your plane to crash in a frozen wasteland somewhere in Northern Canada, you must find a way to survive with little food and water and escape from bitter coldness.

You’ll find yourself in complete isolation, struggling to find basic resources, while defending yourself from wildlife and making sure you don’t get frostbites in the process.

    1. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Another survival horror, Biohazard is the latest installment in the Resident Evil series. Compared to the two of its predecessors, Biohazard is less action-oriented and more focused on exploring. Instead of relying on jumpscare scenes to instill fear, Resident Evil 7 is doing a great job at creating a tense atmosphere at every step. You will find no zombies this time, but the enemies you’ll encounter will all feel unique and force you to find different ways to deal with them.

Released in 2017, Resident Evil 7 ranked second best-selling video game in the US in February.
