Three of That’s Not Current staff writers, including site Editor-in-Chief Kieran Fisher, are contributors to the debut issue of Gruesome Magazine. This first issue is available now in digital version, and a hard-copy version is in the final stages of being printed.
Kieran Fisher’s article “Sex, Violence, & Inhumanity: Scott Schirmer on the Feral Fears of Plank Face” looks at the work of the mind behind such films as Found, Harvest Lake, and Plank Face. In “Isaac Ezban; Filmmaking from Another Dimension,” Joseph Perry (who is also the senior copy editor of the magazine) interviews this fast rising auteur, whose The Similars and The Incident have taken international film festivals — and now home media — by storm. If you are a fan of The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, and classic science fiction and horror cinema and television from the 1950s through the 1980s, Ezban’s films will hold a great deal of joy for you. Mike Imboden checks in with a piece on another fast-rising independent horror filmmaker in “Found Footage 3D: Steven De Gennaro Forges the Rules of Enragement.” That’s Not Current readers who are fans of classic and not-so-classic horror movies will find much to like, including articles about Motel Hell (1980) and Mystics in Bali (1981).
Fisher, Perry, and Imboden are also contributors to the Gruesome Magazine website at www.gruesomemagazine.com. Besides the That’s Not Current staff contributions to Gruesome Magazine’s debut issue, the fine folks behind the Horror News Radio family of podcasts and the Gruesome Magazine website offer a wealth of fantastic articles and interviews about horror films and filmmakers from the independent and film festival circuits.
