It’s been 8 years since Sylvester Stallone last graced our screens as John Rambo, and in that time we’ve been hoping he’d reprise the role at least one more time for a final violent hurrah.
Earlier this year there was talk of a TV series in the works for Fox titled Rambo: New Blood, while talk of a movie which would pit him against Mexican drug cartels was previously floating around the rumour mill.
Well now it looks like neither are happening, and according to THR we’ll be getting a reboot instead.
In an interview with Variety earlier this year, Sly claimed that he was done with the character. Well, Hollywood isn’t done with the character, so I guess they’re just going to find somebody else to play him.
Nu Image/Millennium Films developing are developing the reboot, Rambo: New Blood (I guess they’re keeping that part) with Ariel Vromen (The Iceman, Criminal) set to direct. Brooks McLaren is handling writing duties, but at this moment in time we don’t have any plot details.
While it’s sad to hear that they’re moving on without Sly, it’ll be interesting to see who they cast in the titular role.
